OurChinesehistoryhasbeentheestablishmentofTeacher'sDay.In1931,educatorsTaiShuang-qiuandChengBaocalledonanestablishmentofteachers'daytoimproveteachers'treatment,protectionandpromotionofteacherstraining.TheygaveoutTeachers'Declarationandaskedfortheofficialagreementofteachers'DayandtheycelebratedbythemselvesforteachersintheCentralUniversityinNanjing.Soon,theKMTgovernmentfirstagreedonJune6fortheteachers,thenteachers'daychangedtoAugust27(birthdayofConfucius).

After1949,theCentralPeople'sgovernmentresumedJune6forteachers,theMinistryofEducationgaveacircularthatlocaleducationworkers,accordingtotheactualsituationtoorganizetheircelebrationactivities.In1951NationalEducationtradeunions,educatorsarerecognizedaspartoftheworkingclass.OnApril19,1951,MinisterofEducationandtheChineseEducationunionChairmanoftheNationalCommitteeissuedawrittenstatementthatMay1InternationalLaborDaywasatthesametimecelebratedasteachers'day.Butthisdaylacksteachers'professionandtheresultswerenotideal.Especiallyafter1957,undertheinfluenceofthe"extremeleft",teacherswereignored,soteachers'dayhasactuallyceasedtoexist.

Inrecentyears,theChinesegovernmenthastakenmanymeasurestomobilizethewholesocietytorespectteachers,improvethestatusofteachersandimproveteachersworkandlivingconditions.Tofurtherenhancethepoliticalstatusofteachersandsocialstatusandformationofrespectingteachers,respectforknowledgeandtalent,topromotethedevelopmentofeducation,accordingtoNPCdeputiesandCPPCCNationalCommitteemembersandthecommunity,especiallymanyteachersthroughoutthecountry,aproposalwasputforwardtotheStateCouncilonJanuary11,1985,totheNationalPeople'sCongressStandingCommitteeondeterminingtheannualSeptember10thforteachers'day.OnJanuary21ofthesameyear,the16thNationalPeople'sCongressagreedontheproposal,decidedonSeptember10forteachers'day.

ATeacher'sDay,honoursteachersinChina.Teachers'worktoalargeextentdeterminethefutureofourcountry.Teachersworkwitheveryfamilyandeverychild.Inhumanandsocialdevelopmentandprogress,teachersplayahugerole.Teachersareengineersofhumancivilization.Thecontinuityofthedevelopmentofhumancivilizationdependsongenerationaftergenerationofgoodeducation.Ifnottheteachers'hardandeffectivework,thenthesociety,thestateandthenationwillsufferlossesincivilizationprocess.Therefore,theprogressofacivilizationisunthinkablewithoutteachers.

教师被人们称为“园丁”、“人类灵魂的工程师”，是受到全社会尊重的一种职业。早在1931年5月，教育家邰爽秋、程其保等人就曾建议设立教师节，发表了《教师节宣言》，呈请当时的中央政府批准，并于1931年6月6日在南京中央大学举行了第一次庆贺教师节的仪式。但当时的教育部没有批准把这个节日列入学校校历。尽管这样，后来许多学校的教师仍于6月6日自动举行纪念活动。

1939年，当时的教育部规定以每年的8月27日孔子诞辰纪念日为教师节，并颁布了《教师节纪念暂行办法》，但后来未实行。

新中国成立后，1951年经教育部和全国教育工会商定，废除了6月6日的教师节，而将教师节改在同“五一”国际劳动节一起纪念因无教师特点，实行效果很不理想，后来教师节便销声言迹了。

1985年1月21日，第六届全国人大常委会第九次会议决定，每年9月10日为教师节。

定教师节为9月10日，是考虑到新学年开始，学校要有新的气象，师生要有新的感觉。新生入学伊饱即开始尊师重教活动，可以给教师教好、学生学好创造良好的气氛。同时，9月份全国性节日少，便于各方面集中时间组织活动和突出宣传报道、促进全国范围内形成尊师重教、尊重知识、尊重人才的良好社会风尚。

教师节不仅仅是赞美教师，更重要的是讴歌灿烂的、塑造人类灵魂的一种职业。希望全社会都来尊师重教，那样才会国富民强，繁荣昌盛!
